Top Favorite Board Games In No Particular Order

Picture of the Board Game: Wavelength: Telepathic party game

Jordan (2020)
What Jordan enjoys most about this game:

At this point I feel like I have to defend myself and my choice of Top 12 Games - I've realized after putting this list together that most of these are fantastic group and party games - and there are only 2 proper strategy games in my Top 12.
I promise, I play and enjoy heavier games! :-P
It's just that the holidays always put me in a different mindset, thinking about the games that I love playing with the whole family.
Maybe I'll do a Top 10 heavy-ish games for Valentines or Labor Day since I usually play those with my wife or with my co-workers :-)

Anyway, Wavelength is great.
I enjoy any good clue giving/word guessing game - Codenames, Obscurio, Mysterium, Just One, etc... - but Wavelength is particularly clever.
First, you spin a dial and the clue giver gets to see where it ends up, roughly from 0-100.
Then they get a prompt that scales (Hot-Cold, Beautiful-Ugly, High-Low)
The clue giver only gets to give 1 word/concept to their team, who then have to turn the dial to match where the needle ended up. The other team gets to guess High or Low and potentially score a bonus point if the guess was wrong.

Like Codenames, it's a great spin on classic word games where the limitations really do bring out a totally different kind of experience.

Jordan's favorite memory of this game:

We played Wavelength at a staff meeting, and my clues/references were so awful that I have un-officially been banned from ever being the clue giver again. I guess I just wasn't on the same "wavelength" as my team :-P

Recommended for anyone who loves:

Family Games - (Catan, Ticket to Ride, etc...)
Party Games - (Telestrations, Code Names, Apples to Apples, etc...)

This game is great for:

Spencer

What Spencer enjoys most about this game:

I can't remember the last time I laughed as hard as I did when playing Poetry for Neanderthals. The whole game revolves around getting your team to guess a word but you can only give them one syllable hints. You end up with sentences like: It thing you eat on day in fall. It make you want sleep" . And the work would be turkey. The even funnier part comes in the punishment that you receive if you break the cave-man creed: you get thumped with the included inflatable club!

Spencer's favorite memory of this game:

My family is ruthless when a game has a puishment involved, and Poetry for Neanderthals has the best one. I was playing with my family and my brain was working slower than my mouth which resulted in too may syllables. Many thumps later, and many useless hints later and we were in tears laughing.

Recommended for anyone who loves:

Family Games - (Catan, Ticket to Ride, etc...), Co-Op Games - (Pandemic, Unlock, etc...), Party Games - (Telestrations, Code Names, Apples to Apples, etc...)

This game is great for:

Family Game Night, Holiday Get Togethers

Brock

What Brock enjoys most about this game:

Blood on the Clocktower is my favorite game in one of my favorite genres, Social Deduction. It's a game that can be tougher to learn than One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Secret Hitler, etc. but it's well worth the effort. It's a Werewolf-esque game that fixes a lot of the issues of others and adds an insane amount of replayability. I've played this countless times with many groups of people and I'm still caught off-guard more often than I'm comfortable admitting.

Brock's favorite memory of this game:

I played BOTC with the Birds (Jordan and Zach's family) and managed to frame Zach to his entire family. It's still a sore spot for him, so please bring it up next time you see him :)

Recommended for anyone who loves:

Party Games - (Telestrations, Code Names, Apples to Apples, etc...), Strategy Games - (Stone Age, Agricola, Terra Mystica, Scythe, etc...)

This game is great for:

Family Game Night, Board Game Night (Friends/Other Gamers), Holiday Get Togethers, Any time you have 8+ people together
