Top 12 Favorite Board Games
Number 6

Jordan Bird

6 - Blank!

Blank
What Jordan enjoys most about this game:

Everyone already knows how to play Uno, so when a game comes along that uses essentially the same rules but adds a ton of fun to the mix I'm always ready to give it a try.
Blank absolutely comes through as the perfect replacement for Uno!
In addition to your normal gameplay (empty your hand, play on matching numbers or colors) Blank has a bunch of cards that add new rules, usually to one specific player. You might be cursed to spend the rest of the game talking in the third person, or moving at the pace of a snail, or even saying "EPIC Play" every time another player takes their turn - and watch out, because if you forget to play by the rules you'll end up drawing more cards!

However, there's one more addition to the game that really makes it shine.
Whenever someone wins a game of Blank they get to write on one of the cards making a new rule card that will live on and be a part of Blank every time you play it.

Our family now has 6+ decks of Blank running around, with new cards being added and a totally different game being played depending on which deck you use.

Jordan's favorite memory of this game:

The first time I played Blank it took me a minute to get into the game and before I knew it I had a fistful of cards and it seemed like there was no way I was going to come back and win.
Then I noticed that everyone was being rather casual about calling out Zach and Jenner (my brothers) when they weren't following the rules cards they had been given. That wouldn't do, not if I wanted to have a chance to play out my hand!
At one point it ended up with Zach having a hand of 30+ cards (more than we had left in the deck!) before he turned the tables and started making me draw for every rule I forgot!
We ended up calling a bit of a cease-fire and the rest of the game we were a lot more forgiving, but I don't remember the last game that gave me as much joy as seeing Zach try to sort through his infinite hand of cards to find the right one to play. :-D

6. Point Salad

What Zach enjoys most about this game:

The game provides the same feeling as Sushi Go while also making every game unique.
*Jordan's Note - Point Salad was my 11th Favorite, but it seems like I had a lot more to say :-P You can read more about Point Salad in our Day 4 Post

Zach's favorite memory of this game:

Skyler Hanks -

Hopefully we'll have a catch-up article that is just Skyler's Top 10!

Will Sawyer

6: Evolution: Oceans

Picture of the Board Game: Oceans: Limited Edition

What Will enjoys most about this game:

I adore how balanced the two player mode is. Each player is forced to swap between the attacker/ carnivore roll and the defender/ herbivore roll in order to keep up with the opponent, who is also being forced to alternate these rolls based on what species the other player is crafting. It has a unique way of balancing itself based on who is pulling food from where.

Will's favorite memory of this game:

My favorite experience has got to be going through a multi-turn back-and-forth with my girlfriend where I was trying to stop her from taking the last food in the ocean, so I evolved into a carnivore to attack, which she then responded by evolving a higher defense value, which forced me to evolve a Parasitic trait to leech from her, which made her evolve a Schooling trait that made it so she couldn't be attacked or leeched if she had 5+ food!
So she baited me into going in deep on the aggressive route, to completely shutdown my method of feeding, allowing her to grab the last food to win the game.

Strategy Games - (Stone Age, Agricola, Terra Mystica, Scythe, etc...)

Joey Wheeler

6 - Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth
Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth - Base Game

What Joey enjoys most about this game:

The quality and quantity of stories and scenarios even in the starting box is super cool. It really feels like a genuine Lord of the Rings adventure whenever I play. I love the way that characters level up each game based on what class they chose for that adventure because it opens up lots of possibilities for leveling up across multiple classes and having unique decks of cards. Also not having to worry about keeping track of statistics and actions for the monsters and experience that we earn as players is so nice.

Joey's favorite memory of this game:

(Spoiler alert)

My favorite scenario that I have played so far was one where we had to fight against a Balrog. Seeing the huge Balrog miniature on the board and smiting him with Gandalf's magic while the rest of the party ran through Moria to get away felt like I was reliving the iconic movie moment in my board game and it was so cool!

(End Spoiler)

It is also so much fun to play the finale of a campaign and see your characters at their highest level doing awesome things. It feels like a Lord of the Rings themed D&D in a box.

Chris Fajardo

6 - Unmatched

Picture of the Board Game: Unmatched Battle of Legends, Vol. 1 King Arthur, Alice, Medusa, Sinbad

What Chris enjoys most about this game:

This is basically streetfighter the board game. If you ever wondered who would win in a fight, Buffy the vampire slayer or Sherlock Holmes then I highly recommend picking up this game. Each expansion adds more unique characters and boards to play on. But they are all interchangeable and play nicely. If I were to pick only one expansion then I would say Cobble & Fog, the Invisible man is hilarious to play.

Chris' favorite memory of this game:

Playing a two vs two game my partner quickly died as he got focused down. As the invisible man I was able to avoid both my opponents for several turns and nearly secured a win by myself. Each character is a fun challenge to play and adds unique mechanics to the game.

Recommended for anyone who loves:

Party Games - (Telestrations, Code Names, Apples to Apples, etc...)
Strategy Games - (Stone Age, Agricola, Terra Mystica, Scythe, etc...)

This game is great for:

Board Game Night (Friends/Other Gamers)

Spencer Martin

#6 Cover Your Kingdom

Picture of Cover Your Kingdom

What Spencer enjoys most about this game:

I love how easy to learn Cover Your kingdoms is. If you have played Cover Your Assets, Cover Your Kingdoms is a better version, without taking away from the simplicity of the game. You are now able to play twice as many cards, allowing you to both play and protect your kingdoms, but others can take away twice as much now so be careful!

Spencer's favorite memory of this game:

A strategy I learned in Cover Your Kingdoms is to pay extra attention to the order in which you take your turn. On more than one occasion changing the order in which I took my actions helped me to pull ahead.

Recommended for anyone who loves:

Family Games - (Catan, Ticket to Ride, etc...)
Card Games - (Scum, Dalmuti, Uno, etc...)
Party Games - (Telestrations, Code Names, Apples to Apples, etc...)
